Hiya

DLA abolished 2013/14 ..changed to personal Independence payment .. to those MOST in need . To take into account adaptations AND looking into information sharing with Adult Social Services , and how ASS help interacts.
Periodic reviews , all current caseload to be reassessed (ring any bells?), Most will have face to face medicals.(looks like ATOS or A4E). Further sanctions if you fail to report an improvement in between assessments.
Assessment looks like it will be descriptor based as the executive summary states ...."The new assessment will focus on an individual’s ability to carry out a range of key activities necessary to everyday life ".... etc etc etc

Consultation looks like it is only for the detail NOT for whether DLA should be abolished.

If you are affected .. Have your say .. details on DWP link below to reply to the consultation.
Consultation requires answers to specific questions in full Consultation PDF file.

Thanks for this Richard. Good to see that someone is on the ball by informing us. I haven't heard anything from anywhere/anyone else.

NRAS are organising a reply to the consultation and need your help ,this is an excellent way to get opinion across a s a group... see the request for help on this forum HERE
A group effort like this is a very good way of getting across the possible impact of reform to Government.

There is nothing stopping you completing the questionnaire AND sending off your own reply . However weight of good evidence is a very powerful tool.

Hi Rich

Does this mean 'the most needy' is via a means test? or does it mean you will have to be severely disabled to receive it?

Hi Lady golfer :)

Extract from the Reform Document
Quote:
We are steadfast in our support for the principles of DLA, as a non-means-tested cash benefit contributing to the extra costs incurred by disabled people.

It also goes on to state that in Ian Duncan Smith's move to a "Unified Benefit" system , that DLA will remain outside of this system and will be Non means tested .

There is a lot afoot in the realms of Social Welfare :O

Despite my firm belief that the petitions put to number10.gov.uk are at most going through the motions, I was really dissapointed to see that the petition requesting that this reform be reconsidered, can't remember the detail but that was it's essence, only managed to muster only 5000 ish votes, it's target being 10000. Absolutely pathetic, I mean, how many people claim DLA? It's not although the e petition wasn't highlighted in many places.

Saddened, truly saddened, dissapointed, gutted, etc. If there was one issue that should have had hundreds of thousands os signatures, this was it. This Government will be taking thousands of "us" off this benefit with little likelyhood of getting any measure of PIP. I have had a good read through the proposal and it's function is clear. I was awarded higher rate mobility and middle rate care for an indeffinite period, to me this is clear in its intent; I have been severely affected by my disease, so much so that it is not likely that my condition will improve. Under PIP, I will be re-assessed by a doctor who may have little idea of how my condition affects either my mobility or ability to do things around the house. I was subjected to similar for my DLA claim where a doctor clearly lied on the forms he submitted post examination, a factor that tipped my eventual appeal.

Surely, people who have been through what I consider a degrading examination by someone who is out to catch you out and is looking for any inconsistency in what you tell them , (easy with the way RA can behave), would have been clamouring to sign the petition but , no, a mere trickle have signed. My faith in humanity has never received such a low kick.

Dissapointedly,etc,

Daddyo
